One of my greatest memories is of one of my aunts who had an elaborate faerie palace at the back of her garden, complete with little roads leading here and there; she told me that she always saw the faeries flying in and out (“Look! There goes one, there goes one”!) and I couldn’t believe how lucky she was. I wanted to see them for myself – to know what they really looked like. I could never wait to get to her house to see if I could see one…Despite all of my efforts, I never did see a faerie in her garden. I think these memories are one of the biggest inspirations for why I draw faeries – it is to try to recapture that feeling of amazement, awe and unquestioning belief that such creatures could exist. I think I have made up for it since, for now they are all I see!! I am forever looking at people and imagining what sort of faerie they would be, or what they would look like as some sort of faerie creature…
